Network Lag Spikes in PoE – Inconsistent Latency
Hi,
I am experiencing lag spikes while playing Path of Exile, with latency rapidly oscillating between 20ms to 200ms, and occasionally spiking to over 1000ms. The issue occurs randomly and can last minutes, hours or even the entire day (some days I go lag free). Troubleshooting Steps Taken: -Internet connection is stable, no packet loss, and speed tests show normal performance. -Lag spikes persist in all regions (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, etc.). -Using a VPN made the latency pattern more stable but slower, with fewer extreme spikes. -Tried both a fresh install of the game and a different client, but the issue remains. -Ran a WinMTR test to fra01.login.pathofexile2.com for 10 minutes, showing no packet loss or abnormal routing, but latency spiking to 177ms at times (it's more severe in the game graph). -Restarting a router. Any other steps I could take to troubleshoot? Could this be something on GGG side? Last bumped on Feb 27, 2025, 6:17:15 PM

Your issue can be server based, instance based, routing, or ISP.
Do this when you're experiencing issues in game. Make sure you select the correct instance server/connection. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1377789 You could back up and then delete the old client file so the new one isn't as large and allows you to search for the connection IP faster and easier. If VPN helped that usually indicates a routing problem. If you've already done a WinMTR via the instructions in that GGG post, post the results or the pastebin link here. If you don't want your IP or local area leaked just blur out the left IP areas at the top Last edited by Eleven777#0993 on Feb 27, 2025, 6:12:25 PM
