David, one of the founders/devs of 2 of the most innovative/OG ARPG's to ever exist, Diablo and Diablo 2, says that ARPG's have become too easy.
Looking back on the OG D2, monsters were spread out all across the areas/maps, instead of being in multiple packs at once. If you TRULY want to follow in D2's steps, get rid of monster packs, and spread them out all across the areas/maps. That way, we don't have to rely on AOE attacks/spells, multiple projectiles, etc. Overall, I think that would be even better than POE1's combat-style/monster packs. GGG can not help it OP. There is some one at the helm making terrible design choices and though its clearly bad, no one can say anything about it. Its pretty clear they really screwed this one up. Was hoping they learned at least a little from poe1 but they did not.

I don't know what you're sniffing OP, monster packs are bread and butter in D2.
Monster packs are actually much better done in Diablo 2. For whatever reason I find "packs" much more easy to notice in Diablo, and typically, if there is a "super unique" you'd find it in the middle. When you see a bunch of mobs that start moving rapidly you'd know right away the mods they have. In POE it's never clear the same way. There's too many mob types, too often mixed together, causing a lot more chaos. For example you get constantly harrassed by all elemental damage, including Chaos. You have to layer all your defenses. This is unlike Diablo 2, where you could focus on one resistance, for example Poison in Act 2, amd Lightning for the Scarabs. If anything POE IS harder as an ARPG. Question is if its for the good reasons, and if it is what a great game is about. |

Creating something that hasn't been done before is not easy and sometimes u need someone else's input to get it right. @OP: As people already stated, D2 has monster packs aswell. |
