Crashes and lock-ups in town, reverts to windowed mode i never played in

Started Phrecia a day or two ago. Suddenly the game starts in windowed mode, though ive never played in windowed, and crashes in town, locking up and unable to close POE, cannot end task even. Happens in windowed mode and if i seitch back to full screen. No changes have been made to my computer, no updates ran, since last i played settlers or POE2.
