Why can't an automatic trade be done? We have it to where an item can be posted with a price but people wanting items have to wait for a response. I understand player interaction and all but there are numerous people just posting items for sale and not responding at all. This shouldn't be something that hard to make work. Post an item and price. Someone wants it. They click trade and the items switch accounts. I can't remember what game it was but this has been done in the past and will get rid of useless sellers online.

the utility of trading is to give some value to good items you find because you can theoretically sell them.
for that purpose, it`s enough to provide means to advertise your item to other players.

the game doesn`t really want you to buy your items because it fastens progression and would make even fewer players pick up items in the game.
so it`s intentional that the need to be online to sell takes half or more of the items on sale off the market.

and lastly, if there were a automated way to exchange items it would be paywalled with gold and chances are slim that somebody would sell the item you need over that system.
