[SOLVED] Fog of war resets on area load
Description:
The fog of war resets every time I enter an area, including my own hideout. Even if I fully explore a map, leaving and returning causes the fog of war to reset, making it appear as if I haven't explored the area. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Enter any area (e.g., hideout, town, or map). 2. Explore the area to reveal the fog of war. 3. Leave the area (e.g., using a portal or waypoint). 4. Return to the same area. 5. Observe that the fog of war has reset, and the area is no longer revealed. Expected Result: Explored areas should remain revealed after re-entering them. Actual Result: All explored areas become covered in fog of war again after reloading the instance. Additional Information: - I have tried reinstalling the game, but the issue persists. - The issue occurs in all areas, including my own hideout. - It happens every time I reload an area, regardless of the instance. - My game client is up to date. - I have tried both DX12 and Vulkan renderers, but the issue remains. System Information: - Operating System: Windows 11 - Graphics Card: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX - CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D - Renderer Tried: DX12 and Vulkan - Game Client Version: 3.35.3d ![]() Last edited by OrangeCantaloupe#0157 on Apr 7, 2025, 6:07:41 AM Last bumped on Apr 9, 2025, 11:13:51 PM

This is usually a problem with a file/folder read/write permissions or restriction within Windows, corrupted data, or the game cannot find the original location for the Minimap folder.
Considering you have the 9950x3d (same processor here great choice!), I'm guessing Windows was reinstalled completely or if you tried keeping the installation the appadata information is possibly in the wrong location for the original minimap. A few things to try: If you're using OneDrive or any other system/folder backup service (even a Microsoft account instead of local), disable backing up to the folders below:
Make sure there are no Read/Write restrictions on those same folders. If you did not do a new installation of Windows: You can try deleting or renaming the "%appdata%/Path of Exile" folder to see if rebuilding this folder fixes your issue. Try backing up the "My Games" folder in your Documents location by simply renaming it to allow the game to rebuild the files upon launch. Did you add a new drive to the system for a fresh Windows installation and for some reason the old drive (D: for instance now) is being referenced for this data still? If anything here fixes the issue post back. Good luck! MSI X870E Carbon WiFi, 9950X3D, Sapphire Nitro+ RX 7900 XTX 24GB Last edited by 7ekken#2619 on Apr 1, 2025, 10:38:09 AM

Thanks for the reply!
I did delete the %appdata%/Path of Exile folder and it didn't fix it. After searching how to change the cache location of path of exile, I found a file production_Config.ini (C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile\production_Config.ini). On my old pc, I had 3 drives and my cache was on the D: drive in a folder called PoECache as stated in this file. For more instructions how to edit this file, check this post out: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3238980 My new PC only has 1 drive, C:. So I simply deleted the reference in the .ini file that was referencing D:/PoECache and now it works. It simply wasn't making any cache files at all until I deleted it.
