Any plans for weapon skill overlap?
As more melee weapons get introduced, I can't help but wonder: are there any plans to expand which weapon groups certain weapon skills can work on?
For example, the new skills Whirlwind Slash and Twister for the Spear would also make sense thematically with Swords once they're released. I imagine there are tons of weapon skills that would feel natural to overlap across more weapon types— Flicker Strike, Perfect Strike, and Leap Slam are just a few that come to mind. Just curious if GGG has made any statement regarding this, or if they, on the contrary, have clearly stated the intention to stick with very strict weapon-specific limitations on all melee skills going forward. Of course, I understand the game is still in early access, and this kind of structure may simply be in place for clarity, organization, or balance reasons during the game's development. But I figured it couldn't hurt to ask in case it's something GGG is already considering. Last bumped on Apr 6, 2025, 9:42:42 PM

Update: I found an explanation and it was a little after 1hr 15 min into the "EVERYTHING TO KNOW for PoE2 Dawn of the Hunt!" Interview with Ghazzy and Darth.
They said the concept was "unique weapon territory," in that they may add unique weapons later on that could use skills from other weapon types. They want weapon choice in PoE2 to be more meaningful than in PoE1. I definitely still think there should be some skills that can be usable between various weapon types, but I agree: all weapons should feel unique and fun to use. Obviously many skills should be weapon-specific but each weapon does not need a 100% unique set of skills to protect its identity. Hopefully, they will reassess this decision once all classes and their corresponding weapons are released. No one is saying 100% of a weapons' skills should be useable by all other weapons, just a few that make sense. It would be easier to make more skills accessible for each weapon than to reinvent similar skills for each one, just for uniqueness' sake. At the very least, it would be cool to be able to use select unarmed skills (such as Staggering Palm or Hand of Chayula,) with any one-handed weapon, so long as the off-hand is empty. Perhaps that too is "unique weapon territory," but it just makes sense since you have a free hand. Last edited by SkeeSilentT#4520 on Apr 6, 2025, 9:47:43 PM
