Concentrated Effect Not Working

This gem's positive effect does not seem to work at the moment. It either does not work at all or it does not show up in the skill damage calculations.

No matter what skill i socket it into it does nothing besides reduce the area of effect.

Not all skills with an Area of Effect do Area Damage.

For example, Lightning Conduit is an AoE skill. It does not do Area damage--it targets enemies within its AoE, and deals damage to them. This distinction actually matters for the skill now, because it's part of how the new modifier line functions: "If a Shock is Consumed, additional lightning bolts are distributed among the targets hit."

What skills were you trying Concentrated Effect with?

I'm confused by your explanation but I even tried it now on Voltaic Mark which literally does a nova effect when you kill an enemy with the mark and even that nova does not get its damage increased while its radius does get reduced by the gem.


It does increase the damage of Lightning Rod though.

The gem seems very confusing right now if this is intentional. I was playing lightning monk last patch and I'm pretty sure it increased the damage of Herald of Thunder.

In any case, if the positive effect does not apply, the negative should not apply either. There being 2 different logics between the 2 effects is absurd with the current wording.

Prefacing this with saying that I haven't used any of these skills in PoE2, and am talking just based on the wording on the gems...

Lightning Arrow probably would've been a better example than Lightning Conduit.
It doesn't do damage area damage. It does single-target hit damage (if the arrow hits an enemy), scans an area for enemies, and chooses a number of enemies in that area to shoot beams at. If it did area damage, it would damage everything in the area. Instead, if you shoot at a large enough swarm of small weak enemies, it's possible some of the enemies might not get hit even with the chaining beams.

The wording on Herald of Thunder is a bit unclear.
It does read as though it could be summoning lightning that does AoE damage, but my understanding (partially from PoE1) is that the lightning is single-target, and the AoE is just a targeting radius similar to Lightning Arrow.



Vine Arrow and Voltaic Mark, from the skill descriptions, seem like they should be affected by Concentrated Effect on some level at least.

Vine Arrow has an impact radius for the arrow landing, which sounds like it should be affected by Concentrated Effect.
The Chaos DoT from the plant wouldn't be affected, though. The plant has a radius for attaching vines to enemies, but the Chaos DoT applied by a vine is a single-target effect on the enemy it's attached to--making it not AoE.

Voltaic Mark seems like the nova should have its damage amplified by Concentrated Effect. I do agree this part is a bug.

up. not working with ice bomb of frost mages. negative effect applies but not positive one.
