Menu framerate (background)

If you have the side menu opened and there any sort of effects on the screen (blood on ground from king of mists, tornadoes from jamanra, etc), the game in the background goes to like 10fps and when you try to swap gems, its just really laggy. Is there a way to either disable the effects while in the 'game paused' state?
