Ping Spikes and Some crashes on Washington DC servers
Playing on washington DC server for POE 2, I will pretty regularly get a jump on my ping going from a stable 20ms to 120+ and then every few minutes I jump to 2k+ ms. Sometimes instead of going to 2k and coming back I go to 6k ms and the game crashes back to character screen.
I also get ?? ms to Texas servers. Don't know if its issues on my end or on the server end. I have no problems connectiing to servers of differrent games. Looking for any assistance to get my network to be more stable if possible, thanks. Last bumped on Apr 11, 2025, 1:57:44 PM

Normally I'd be advocating the WinMTR link from GGG...
But, tonight I also experienced the same spikes on DC. I had zero WinMTR issues to the instance servers to DC. So it wasn't the typical routing issues people experience. I ended up switching to Texas for the rest of the night. MSI X870E Carbon WiFi, 9950X3D, Sapphire Nitro+ RX 7900 XTX 24GB Last edited by 7ekken#2619 on Apr 10, 2025, 9:14:59 PM

I have actually been having a problem like this with PoE2 and PoE1 for months now.
I will log into PoE1/2 and notice my ping yo-yoing all over the place from 30-250ms with occasional spikes up to 2000-5000ms, then simultaneously open up another online game and it will be a stable 30-35ms ping to a server in the same geographic location as the PoE server. My internet connection seems to work quite well for everything except PoE servers. Additionally, I've done the MTR analysis - I don't know how to ping the PoE servers themselves in MTR but I've done tons of other domains and it at least rules out that there is an issue on my end. It seems to be worse during evenings and weekends so I'm imagining that this is likely related to the volume of traffic on the servers. It does impact the amount of time I play - sometimes I log in and see the ping jumping and then I immediately log off because I'm just not in the mood to put up with it. There are some servers that are worse than others - I would typically prefer to play on the Canada East, DC, or Texas gateways but during the evening those are a toss-up for me. |

It's very possible that the Washington issues are related to general state of EU servers. It's only one somehow working server for people from EU that have latency/dc issues recently, so I bet it's overcrowded sometimes (however I'm not sure how many players needs to log-in at once to have an impact on that).
In short, EU servers are unplayable for many players, resulting in ping jumps from very low values (2-20) to 10.000 and crashing connection. That could explain issues with higher ping, especially with many connections to one gate. Or, this server is starting to feel the same symptoms that were reported on EU. It's definitely worth to take into consideration, tho. |
