[ISSUE] HDR is linked to windows SDR slider

Hi GGG,

I have been an owner of a PG32UCDM OLED monitor for about 1-2 weeks now.
Absolutely love playing games in HDR on it.
It can output a max of 1200 nits in my testing with other titles.
I was happy that HDR was supported in POE2 buuut... you guys have implemented it a bit wrong.

let me show you guys what i mean.
first we'll set the HDR - SDR slider in windows to 0.

We toggle HDR off and on again as we made a change to the slider.
We can do this realtime without having to restart the game by simply ticking the HDR checkmark off and on again.

this roughly outputs 126nits at peak on the current image now.

Now let's put the slider to 100 and toggle the HDR checkmark off and on again.

This puts the current scene at 616 nits peak brightness.

but the entire image gets incredibly bright, huge gamma raise.

What is the issue? :

If you ever have time to look at your HDR implementation, please don't make it readout the slider output. Instead make it read out the display hdr metadata for luminance like:

Max Luminance

Max Frame-avg

Min Luminance

Preferably a in-game HDR calibration would be the best way to go. Black Point, Peak Brightness, White Point aka White Paper.

Instead of having these incredible highlights popping, we get the entire image being brighter not respecting the curve.

I know you guys are swamped with other work, but if any of your engine devs are free to look at this i myself and other HDR users would appreciate this a ton.
Many other games have HDR controls, even D4 (never played it but i saw a screenshot of it).

Kind regards,
FinalLight

+1, and I'm sure the reason this happens is because the game uses an 8-bit swapchain in HDR mode instead of 10-bit.
Agreed, really hoping that HDR will get improved at least before 1.0.
fingers crossed, maybe we'll be lucky with it happening soon.
but i doubt it, unless we have a dev on the team that is a HDR fan as well haha.
If you have an Nvidia card try using RTX HDR. honestly looks pretty good on POE2

I have tried AutoHDR, Special K, RTX HDR so far.
Nvidias implementation seems so far the best.

But I do prefer a native implementation over a SDR to HDR conversion.
Tho I am still curious how RenoDX would be like in POE2, as they did a wonderful job with Cyberpunk etc.

Thanks for raising this issue. Let's hope this gets corrected before 1.0!
