Recently engraved skill gem missing after forced disconnect

Playing Standard Dawn of the hunt.

Was force disconnected by the game not long after leveling up to level 8 and engraving/socketing a lvl 3 skill gem. When I logged back in I had lost progress in the area I was in, I had lost the xp that allowed me to level up and I had neither the uncut skill gem nor the socketed engraved skill gem. I did still have all the items I acquired at the same time as the uncut gem.

It seems like something about the state of the game, engraved skill gems and xp aren't recorded the same way obtained loot is.

If disconnects are expected to be frequent (I've had a few since the 0.2 update) could something be done to make sure recent skill gems aren't lost?
