Tame Beast Life Leech From Thirsting Ally Notable seems to not apply

Hard to measure this, but I am using tame beast (Quadrilla) on my mercenary and it seems my life leech is not applying to it. I have the notable that makes 20% of my leech instant and when I do damage with my grenades I only see leech applying to my own health bar, not the companion.
