What was the point of Poe2?
Seems like Poe2 failed, and not only that, it seems it killed Poe1 with it by bringing all the devs from poe1 to poe2, only for them to quit GGG now.
If Poe1 was an excellent game that was doing great, and was the king of its genre, can anyone tell me what was the point in making poe2? which seems to be an unsuccessful copy of other games that already exist?. If you already have in your hands something that is working wonderfully (poe1), why destroy it by trying to create something different (poe2) with unknown results? What was the point of poe2? Simple - GGG just didn't like PoE 1. They didn't like the fast-paced ARPG gameplay, nor did they like the amount of loot.
They made Ruthless mode to realize the vision of an ARPG with "meaningful combat", but it was not enough for them. They wanted an entire new game. And so PoE 2 was made. It was everything that GGG aimed for. Slow combat that feels "meaningful" and a gameplay experience where every decision is "impactful". Why would they work on the version of PoE that does not align with the vision? |

" I know what you mean. But its weird, I mean, the fanbase loved Poe1, its what GGG was good at, everyone enjoyed it. So, they decided to kill their golden goose just because 1 or 2 guys at GGG (Chris and his "vision") didnt like it?. Talking about ego and arrogance. |

" We can only hope they annoyed so many long term POE 1 supporters that their income got crushed because the 450k tourists who were just trying the flavor of the month are never coming back for more and they have annoyed POE 1 supporters so bad that a lot of them will never spend again myself included. " I want Poe1 to stay alive, I hope they realize their mistake and bring back their focus to Poe1 instead. Keep delivering on Poe1 content and leave that "vision" experiment (Poe2) as a side project. After all, Poe1 is/was their golden goose. |

" I honestly think GGG and PoE are walking the same path Diablo did. It’s very similar to what happened with Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. The first game was built by passionate developers — and that’s why it was great. Maybe a bit niche, sure, but it had real character. Then success brought money, and with money came marketing teams who wanted to exploit the name for broader, more casual sequels. Today, “mass market” means Twitch audiences and console players. That’s who PoE2 is clearly designed for — and that’s why it feels nothing like PoE1. In the end, it’s all about profit. And just like with Diablo 3, I’m guessing we’ll see strong initial sales… followed by a fast decline. |

" When a game, ANY game, goes mainstream, this kind of thing happens. Developers get out of touch with the community and that leads to controversies. |

" money, making poe attractive for a bigger audience and to be fair, it hasn't failed (yet) |

" I'm myself starting to consider a difference between what GGG, and what Jonathan wants. It is completely right to say that JR "is" GGG, but I'm not sure that the whole company is on the same boat anymore. Pure gut feeling, but when the number of coincidences increases, the higher the chance those are not coincidences. |

GGG got tired of supporting the "free" PoE 1.
Now they can charge $29.99 for PoE 2. 8 mod maps are the new alch and go.
