Currency Trade w/Gamblers

Would it be possible to realign the receipt of the currency exchange option earlier in the game. Currently it unlocks in Act 4 without any notification that it is an option there. Would it be possible to make it a reward from one of the zone bosses in Act One instead? Currently there are a few enemies that only give a support gem or are just there without a specific reward.

I’m sure many are wondering why I care, but I play hardcore. I either have to park a character in Act 4 or I don’t always have access to see what the current rates are that people are paying for currency. When starting the second character it would be great to be able to trade in the chaos orbs or divine that I got previously for exalts to use in the trade market for gear.

Thanks for your consideration, trolls come at me. ;)

It is awkward.
I hope you'll forgive me expounding on related thoughts so voluminously, below.

However we unlock the Currency Exchange, I personally think that our characters should thereafter be able to interact with it from any act even if they are low level. It should become an option for all gambling vendors from Act 1 forward (once unlocked) and Alva should probably remain in your hideout.

Unlike the Currency Exchange in POE1 (Faustus / Kingsmarch), the exchange in POE2 is currently hard-locked to Act 4 and above, making interacting with it a pain in some circumstances. I feel like this can be improved and hope that it will be, based on its evolution in POE1.

- For a player levelling a new character, they will receive notifications about completed trades but be unable to interact with the exchange or clear out any trades without first reaching Act 4. As a result, this player may need to continually switch between characters in order to manage their trades on the exchange.

- Oddly enough, the gambler vendors in Acts 1-3 will still SHOW a light column notification that Alva has completed one of your trades, but will not allow you to access it as they do not possess the dialogue option to access the exchange. This seems odd.

- For a player whose Hardcore league characters have died, they may be unable to interact with the exchange even to clear their orders unless they level a new character to Act 4.

- The currency exchange currently does not allow you to manage orders placed within other leagues. This can be problematic, as it makes it unreasonably difficult to clear unwanted orders from old leagues -- orders that share order space with all other leagues. We've seen several perplexed reports about this for both games.

You can migrate event and challenge leagues to their respective parent leagues and manage them there, but this requires the player to have a character far enough advanced to do so. In POE1, a new character can (now) access the exchange in Kingsmarch or their hideout.

For migrated Hardcore leagues, it is possible that the player will have no character and be forced to level a new character - in a league where they do not intend play - just to clear these obsolete orders from the exchange. This seems like an oversight that would be more easily resolved by providing access early.

I'm not sure what will happen with voided event leagues.

- It's probably not fair to raise the possibility that the player may be out of character slots, further compounding the issue for orders placed in Hardcore leagues, since GGG is very generous in providing 24 slots for free. Altaholics and veteran players may have 40 or 100 slots and still be tight on space for new characters, however.
Current implementation of the currency trader in A4 seems to be a band-aid because true act 4 isn’t out yet. I imagine there will be some story type quest to unlock it in the true Act4, my money is it’ll be a trading house in a city or something.

But fundamentally I agree with you, it should be way earlier in the game than Act4, and once unlocked it should be available on all characters.

I currently b-line to act 4 on every fresh league start so I can trade the armorers scraps for exalts and finally buy some gear that makes the game playable because unfortunately even with mobs spewing piles of gear nothing decent ever drops and crafting in campaign is a sick joke.

That's a good point.

There are a number of things that understandably fall into that category for the game in EA. It may not be reasonable to expect GGG to comment on them all, but it would certainly be helpful to hear them say "We know that it is an issue, but we just haven't sorted out what the solution is yet / haven't been in a position to implement the full mechanic."

Several of them cause an unnecessary amount of confusion, such as the Ascent to Power quest showing up in Act 5 or travelling between town areas in Act 6. Some have a much greater negative impact to more players than the exchange; spelling out some of the more confusing unfinished things in a more visible way could be helpful.
