Unexpected disconnections with ExpressVPN

I have been having random crashes to the login screen for the last two months or so and it will always say that an unexpected disconnection occurred. When I try to log back in it will say I am doing so from a different location and need the password re-entered. When this happened on a second computer I realized the problem was likely my VPN. I have tried playing without the VPN and the issue seems to be resolved but I would very much like to be able to have my VPN on.

A disconnection isn't a crash; nor is this a Path of Exile bug or a GGG issue at all.

What GGG (and literally every game developer ever) supports you is you performing a fresh install of your OS, fully updating it, downloading and installing the latest version of your graphics, chipset, and audio drivers, then downloading and installing the game.

If you're doing anything above and beyond that and it works for you - great. But if it isn't, then it's on you to either stop or find a way of making it work. GGG has no insight into how exactly ExpressVPN works, nor do they have any capacity to implement changes to it - you cannot possibly expect them to be responsible for ensuring it works with the game.

A quick online search suggests that ExpressVPN supports so-called "split tunneling" - you could use this to have Path of Exile game traffic be unaffected by the VPN while it continues to run in the background and affect other traffic, such as that created by your web browser.

Alternatively, you could reach out to ExpressVPN's support team and ask for their assistance. From your post, it sounds awfully like your connection is being interrupted - that's going to get you disconnected from literally any online game you play. Ask ExpressVPN whether they support online gaming - and if so, explain that online gaming isn't working for you when using the VPN (and only when using the VPN) and that you require their help troubleshooting the issue.


tl;dr: ExpressVPN issues are ExpressVPN issues; not Path of Exile issues. GGG doesn't support it, and there is quite literally zero chance of them making changes to the game over this.
