Curses not casting

Half the time im struggling to cast curses.
The character does the animation, spends mana but it doesnt cast and it doesnt inflict the curse. I tried everything, even casting right on top of a foe and it doesnt work. This is rly frustrating since im running a hexboom build so i heavily rely on curses.
