someone explain skll & support gem
why would someone put support gem on default weapons skill? for example spear throw or spear jab, I never plan to use those skills, yet i see builds put support gem in those slot, what the purpose.
also is there way to remove spear stab/throw from skill list? Last edited by weaponwh#1937 on May 24, 2025, 6:27:58 PM Last bumped on May 26, 2025, 1:04:24 PM

You'd be surprised how many players have found out that default mace attack is the best they can use:) For a long part of character life.

" i'm refer to end game build, where i see build has support gem on spear stab/throw? maybe those support gem can use across entire skills? |

" Support gems only affect the skill that they are linked to. Default spear stab/throw etc can be very effective with 3 or 4 support gems - and cost no mana. 😹😹😹😹😹
I do not and will not use TFT. Gaming Granny :D 🐢🐢🐢🪲🪲🪲 @xjjanie.bsky.social |

" It's failed design. Nobody uses basic weapon skills in endgame. You put support skills into it if you need to swap something on your main skill for a boss for example, or you just wanna save some stash slots. Basic weapon attacks are used by fresh characters, as low level skills that game gives you are mostly useless. Basic attacks do not cost mana and are stronger than low level gems (with some exceptions obviously). It's bad design at it's best. |

I use basic attack. Level 33 quarterstaff strike hits hard and costs 0 mana.
Don't tread on my build diversity. *spear is for storing support swaps. Has so many slots. "Beidat honored the pact, though Mancy wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype." Last edited by Direfell#7544 on May 26, 2025, 6:05:01 AM

The skill system, much like the crafting system in this game, completely sucks.
I hate Vaal orbs more than anything else in this game. Vaal and Chance orbs will turn thousands of potential long term players off of this game in its early stages. The entire skill gem system is a bit of a joke. I would far rather a point based tree system. Having to upgrade skill gems feels pointless, having to Vaal a skill gem feels TERRIBLE, adding quality to skill gems, all of it feels really bad. Really, really bad. |

" My whole build is based on Mace Strike. Put that on a Fanatic Mace, which adds AoE to that, and some increased AoE, then you can clear whole packs with "auto attack". That said, basic attacks skills have high base DPS, which makes them good single tag options. |

" Not everything needs to be end game viable. Some skills, like basic attacks, are fine to support up as a transitionary skill. You don't have access to all the high end skills right away afterall, you might have good reason to trick out a free attack (say with mana leech or a builder skill) while your character runs out of mana to use their primary skill, then later transition to another skill later, since you can pop those supports out and transfer them very easily. |
