Cannot place Large soul core into alter in ACT 3

I played with a buddy of mine who placed his soul core in the alter while we were playing together but the alter has a soul core in the alter preventing me from placing mine. I tried relogging, waiting 15 mins to retry but no luck. If I could get some assistance that be great!
