EU server issue theory / data collection / fix!
Dear Path of Exile 2 community,
many of you are currently experiencing significant lag spikes on the EU servers and I need your help to gather data to identify a possible root cause. My theory is that the issue seems to be that some internet service providers may have bandwidth issues when connecting to Cloudflare which could be affecting our gameplay experience. Background: Internet traffic is routed through various networks and local ISPs need to buy into peering networks to ensure smooth connectivity. Unfortunately not all ISPs do this in a large scale and want to cheapen out which can lead to bandwidth problems. For example Telekom in Germany is facing similar issues (https://www.heise.de/en/news/Net-neutrality-alliance-files-complaint-against-Telekom-10365039.html). How you can help: To better understand the issue we need to collect latency data from as many players as possible who are experiencing lags. You can use native Windows tools like ping to test your connection to Cloudflare. Here's how you can participate: Open Command Prompt: Press Win + R, type cmd, and press Enter to open Command Prompt. Run the Ping Test: Type the following command and press Enter: ping <IP_ADDRESS> -n 10 Replace <IP_ADDRESS> with the IP address from the list below. Upload Your Results: Please upload the results to this forum thread along with your ISP name. List of IPs to test based on the server you usually play on: Location IP Address Texas (US) dal01.login.pathofexile2.com Amsterdam (EU) ams01.login.pathofexile2.com Singapore sng01.login.pathofexile2.com Australia mel01.login.pathofexile2.com London (EU) lon01.login.pathofexile2.com Frankfurt (EU) fra01.login.pathofexile2.com Washington, D.C. (US) wdc01.login.pathofexile2.com California (US) sjc01.login.pathofexile2.com Milan (EU) mil01.login.pathofexile2.com Sao Paulo (BR) sao01.login.pathofexile2.com Paris (EU) par01.login.pathofexile2.com Moscow (RU) mos01.login.pathofexile2.com Auckland (NZ) akl01.login.pathofexile2.com Japan tok01.login.pathofexile2.com Seoul (KR) seo01.login.pathofexile2.com Canada (East) tor01.login.pathofexile2.com South Africa zaf01.login.pathofexile2.com Hong Kong hkg01.login.pathofexile2.com By gathering this data we hope to identify patterns and potentially GGG can contact some ISPs to resolve the lag spikes. Your participation is crucial in helping us improve the gaming experience for everyone on the EU servers! And now how can you potentially fix the lag issues yourself? Use a VPN! VPNs will connect to a different network which potentially has better peering than your local ISP! Try it out with a test account from a VPN of your choice. Thank you for your support! Best regards, pounty (which didn't have any issues with servers since launch) P.S.: If any of this is not desired by GGG I apologize and please delete the post. P.P.S.: Already removed the traceroute. Didn't think about it. Last edited by pounty92#6993 on May 28, 2025, 1:58:18 PM Last bumped on May 29, 2025, 7:03:09 AM

I can give you the Ping data, but ***my routing data*** with whom I can be identified, tracked and my home system potentially hacked into? Hell nah

I might be wrong, but he didn't ask for a trace route.
I'm not sure if the ip_adress is needed or if something like Germany/Vodafone/fra01.login.pathofexile2.com min=18ms, max=75ms, mean=45ms no losses would be enough. |

He did but edited after 2nd post, and his current ‘solution’ is pointless because it’s just pinging the login server and not seeing the hops or even going to the game servers.

I know the ping is not a "solution" it was to gather some data. It's the login servers yes. My theory is that it's cloudflare itself so that is sufficient for the test.
Jonathan just talked about it in the Tri interview. They are actively looking into getting better peering and routes for the servers in EU. So basically the other side. Maybe they will use more than just cloudflare. Last edited by pounty92#6993 on May 28, 2025, 5:18:19 PM

" Yep GGG are VERY aware of the issues and have the data you don’t and are working on it as JWR said. They don’t have issues with cloud flare, it’s the routing to the Cogent backbone that’s problematic and in EU the Telia and Twelve99 ISPs (think someone said Telekom in Germany was another) that are a pain in our collective butts. Also ping is useless and tracert isn’t much better, if you want to do it the way GGG like you’d use WinMTR ;)
Also anyone worried about their identity and security posting the pastebin (again GGG preferred way of such logs) could xxx out the first 2 IPs to protect their router and personal WAN IP ;) (ALL typos lack of caps, punctuation and general errors are copyright Timbo Industries - Laziness Division)

" That’s slanderous, he was over confident for sure and things are starting to head those ways. (ALL typos lack of caps, punctuation and general errors are copyright Timbo Industries - Laziness Division)
