Genuine question for devs about 1 shot effects

Do the devs who actually play the game go through maps and trials and whatnot and experience one shot death effects and go "Yeah this is fun, let's keep this in, let's do more of this"?

Genuine question, probably asked a million times already, I know it probably seems like an a-hole question, but I don't get what the fun is in one-shot death effects that you can't see or control for in any capacity? Who thinks that's fun?

it's not fun but it makes building the right defense for it worth the cost in the end.

I finally stopped getting 1 shot around level 92 ish after i had enough hp/es/evasion.

I didnt die much before either cuz the only times i would die is when i couldn't dodge certain chaos spells, or getting cornered with those chaos orbs from plants.

Now I can take a few hits if i do get hit.

The 1 shots now are only from pinnacle bosses besides that, nothing can kill me unless I just stand there and get blasted.

I tank attacks all the time as a ranger. Eat them like cupcakes. Don't even try to move. Get wrecked nerd.

The issue is that what qualifies as a "one-shot mechanic" varies wildly by build. Some people are running around with 5k health and iron-plated defenses, getting occasionally hit by a rare combination of stuff, and complaining because they believe they should be immortal...and some people are running around with 700 health and no defense or avoidance value above 25%, with low resistances. and complaining about getting instagibbed because they don't realize they're made of spun sugar and are dramatically below the threshold for acceptable survivability. Nor will the latter players typically admit this, if they even know it.

GGG has also said in the past that in previous investigations they've done, "one shots" are much rarer than people think. What usually occurs is a tight cluster of damage spikes all occurring close together. it's why the old CWDT > Immortal Call thing used tobe such a big deal in PoE1 - you'd get "one-shot" by porcupine packs' death quillblasts without it, but it wasn't actually getting one-gobbed. it was taking fifty smaller damage spikes all within a few hundred milliseconds overwhelming your recovery and defense. That's much harder for them to do anything about than "One Shots."

I can answer on this.

I got a bit more than 1.3k health and 3.7k ES with a rare %ES amu and a Beacon swap for pinnacle bosses that would obviously drop me down. Played both - huntress/amazon and ranger/deadeye - and pretty much use the same gear and similar passive nodes so survivability is nearly identical, deadeye even a bit better due to tailwind.

Playing PoE2 since 0.1 all the way to current 0.2.0h.

Regular 5/6 affix T15 maps (like to save the 1 revive incase of EU lag spike in a purple ball ritual killing me) and ~200% waystone drop chance maps on citadels aswell as T4 pinnacle bosses. Can easily stand still and tank some hits if I want to.

What about you?
