Client stuck in pause while game is not paused

I was hit by a ping spike during a Blight encounter and paused until it passed. When I closed the menu, the game still appeared to be paused, (textures still moving, wasn't stuck on a frame), and I couldn't take any actions, however the Blight and my minions did resume, eventually playing the ending music and dropping items around Cassia. The game was stuck there for about 5 minutes through a couple attempts to unpause/repause until it randomly unstuck itself while I was typing this. I was able to type in chat, open the Esc menu and passive tree, but not move or use any skills.

update (Bug Report ID: #2166653879) had the same thing happen with Settlers ore except i didn't pause this time. Feels like client and server are getting desynced on if the game is paused?

edit for more instances, Bug Report ID: #1636283392, got paused in a breach, my screen and character weren't able to move but merc and minions were still making attack noises and items would drop as a result.

edit again: resizing the window during the fake pause forces the frame to re-render, sometimes this causes things to go back to normal, sometimes it updates the frame but remains fake paused

post patch update, Bug Report ID: #1011847002; hit in another Blight, all the character models were paused but I was able to upgrade towers, with the range indicators showing on hover and the labels changing to Salvaged after it ended. I seem to be able to use skills, but the display is still paused for several minutes before it fixes itself.

Bumping again cause still seems to be happening after the patch, Bug Report ID: #4177168325

Looks like it is happening for others, here is describing the same, this one might be too.

New details I can throw in is that scroll-wheel zoom still works, and buff icons from my auto-flasks and my merc running around would pop on and off, but character models remained stuck in place with their visual effects still moving. Pausing still works, but unpausing leaves everything in this state. Making drastic changes to the window size still sometimes works, but the effect can happen on any window size. I'm on DirectX11 as X12 and Vulkan are still causing the crash on startup from one of the 3.26 hotfixes

If nothing else, maybe the /oos command could resync the pause state? I really don't get what would be causing this other than the client thinking things are paused still. My gut is that the client isn't getting the signal that the game is resuming after the lag auto-pause, so still thinks it should be lag-paused after a manual unpause.

e: hi again, paused in another incursion, Bug Report ID: #1475521560. Left the game on Escape menu pause for 15 minutes, which did not unstick it. after a couple attempts, stretching the window got it unstuck again. Possibly another person with the bug here.

Condensing everything in one spot in the hope this does anything

• Randomly, the game will get "fake paused", where the client continues to animate an idle frame as if the game was paused, however the game is continuing on server-side, and continues to accepts client-side inputs.
• The game is not frozen, usually my FPS gets worse while this occurs, but the game continues to loop the animations of effects such as Flame Golem's fire or effects from my weapon skin. It is possible to zoom in and out, level gems, and open and modify my inventory and options. Buffs and debuffs will continue to pop on and off and can be inspected. If Blight towers are on screen, they can be updated, and their range rings will be drawn on screen. Title bars for item drops and salvaged Blight towers are updated in the fake-pause state. My Life bubble usually continues to update, but timers are inconsistent. Voice lines and music will fire/change as appropriate.
• My ping is normal while all this is happening. I can engage in chat as normal, unlike when I'm legitimately lag-paused or lose connection to the server. The game seems to accept my inputs, though the only definite confirmation I have of this is Portal Scrolls working; with the display paused I can't know for certain if I'm placing ballistas or if my merc and minions are carrying.
• I can pause the game with Escape menu or opening the Passives or Atlas pages, and interact with these menus as normal. I have left the game paused this way in an Incursion for 15 minutes so I know that's working. Exiting these menus unpauses server-side, but leave me in the fake-paused state client-side.
• The game does seem to unstick itself if you leave it unpaused for ~5 minutes, but I've only tested this a few times after a completed Blight; relogging fixes it much more effectively and it wasn't happening more than once a map until recently.
• Drastically resizing the window such that it's forced to re-render the scene can unstick things. Sometimes this does nothing, sometimes this updates the frame but leaves it fake-paused, and sometimes everything goes back to normal. Currently I've been changing the window from a fullscreen window to the smallest square PoE will allow, then stretching the left side back to normal, then stretching the bottom back to normal, with it usually getting fully unstuck in one of the 3 big resizes. This never fixes anything if the game is paused via Escape/Passive/Atlas. Fake-pauses will happen if the game is Fullscreen, Windowed Fullscreen, or Windowed, and switching between them doesn't fix it, so I've been on Windowed as its fastest to do this maneuver.
• I am currently on Predictive mode with DirectX11. Previously I was on DirectX12 as it had the best performance of the three for me, but after one of the 3.26.0 hotfixes the game fails to launch/crashes on the log in screen if switched to DirectX12 or Vulkan, which has its own thread already. My ping is playable but not terribly stable so Lockstep is very jerky and I avoid using that mode.
• The only consistent trigger point is that it has always occurred in the context of various league mechanics in maps. This never happened during campaign for two characters, I haven't had it happen in Labyrinth or trials, base mapping (probably, see Ritual below), during Maven/Eldritch quest invitations or near Eldritch altars. Initially I thought this was related to shader loading, which has caused me lag issues in the past, but as it has happened more often I've gotten hit while the F1 Shader bar is fine, and have failed to get hit in mechanics that have it maxed for a while.


Mechanics that have fake-paused me:
• It occurs to me most often in Blight, though I'm pretty sure this is because I've had a Blight in every map for the last 20 levels rather than Blight itself; most Blights are fine, and lots of mechanics get hit. In Blight, it usually occurs quite late in an encounter, but it's procced at portals opening, bosses spawning, at the very end when nothing else is spawning and we're just trying to take down the final tanked out boss, and sometimes when nothing special is happening at all. The most recent instance was the worst, where I got paused early, unstuck myself, got paused again, unstuck myself again, then got paused a third time before I gave up on it.
• Next most often is Incursion, again probably because Alva's been in all my maps for the last 10 levels. In contrast this one always happens within the first few seconds, which usually bricks the Incursion. I had once instance where I had cleared the spawn point packs and had a minute to fix things with the resizing shenanigans, this is the same one where I left it paused for 15 minutes to no effect. Usually my first incursion of the day is a little stuttery and it clears up after that, but any incursion can get hit by this. The first time I got fake-paused multiple times in a map was it happening in two different Incursions.
• I had this happen twice during Settlers ore encounters while I was specced into it for the Verisium challenge.
• I've had it happen once during a Mercenary fight, against a nearly dead Kinectist who killed me while I tried to get unpaused. I would guess I've done more Blights than map Mercs, and more Mercs than Incursion maps (though maybe I've done more individual Incursions since they're 4 per map).
• I've had it happen twice in Jun missions, one Transportation, one Fortification.
• I had it happen once during a Ritual, and avoided the mechanic since then. I have also had it happen once while approaching the initial pack of a Ritual, which is the closest I've been to having it happen outside a league mechanic.
• I had it happen in one Breach, but have done a few others without issue. It happened a couple seconds in after several monsters had already been spawned and killed.
• I've had it happen once in the Sacred Grove, fine many other times.
• I've had it happen once during a Delirium Mirror, have not done any Delirious maps yet. Funny enough, the one time I've run a Blight while Delirious it did not have this issue.


Mechanics that have yet to fake-pause me:
• I've done numerous Strongboxes, Shrines, Tormented Spirits, Essences, Vaal side areas, and Rogue exiles without issue
• Abysses, despite maxing out my Shader meter for extended periods, hasn't caused me any problems.
• I've done about two dozen Expeditions without issue
• I have barely engaged with Harbingers, Legion, Ultimatum, Heist, Delve, or Bestiary this league, but haven't had issues in the few times I've touched them.
• I don't know how many maps I've done, but I've gotten a character to 84 and another to 92 and picked up my Eater/Exarch Voidstones and have never had the fake-pause during regular map packs, bosses, eldritch altar packs, eldritch fights, or the Maven invitations. I have been lag-paused and had it resume normally, both in mapping and in mechanics that have fake-paused me.

My assumption here is that this is being caused by the pause-while-lagging feature activating, but only being ended server-side and not client-side in some instances. It's been a bit since I've tried it but /oos wasn't fixing it, so if it does resync pause state already that's wrong, but if it hasn't been, could that be added? Seems like something it should do anyway and might be at least the bandaid solution this needs.

Bug Report ID: #2752505433 Stuck in the Courtyard of Wasting to just a random pack. Gotten stuck like this nearly 30 times and its the first time it was outside a league mechanic.

edit: okay it's apparently nightmarish in Originator maps in general. got caught on another random pack on the next questline map, then got caught 5 times at different points in the next one (Bug Report ID: #891616568). good thing this is merc league or i'd have blown all the portals just getting glitched in sight of random magic packs

Used to be happening once every 5-10 maps and now its been happening every map and usually multiple times a map. Looks like we're going into the weekend without it getting touched too yay.

3.26.0d: looks like things have gotten better? Not happening every map anymore. I've had a couple instances where the game will stop like its paused, but hp bars and item drops still update, but its unsticks itself after a second or two instead of being permanently like that.

Did get perma-stuck again though, had a Harbinger spawn next to a Shrine in a Beyond map, Beidat spawned in the middle of that and the game fake-paused for ~45 seconds before I got it unstuck resizing it. Bug Report ID: #2547987718

two more incursions -.- Bug Report ID: #2047980982, Bug Report ID: #1726673805. got caught again after getting unstuck in the second and had to log out. follow up bug report: this caused that incursion to not drop anything, including the itemized temple for Scarab of Timelines? Bug Report ID: #3427955342 if these things do anything.
i stopped doing blights by the by.

aaand looks like we're back to multiple times a map. didn't get /bugs on these cause i can't chat in the escape menu and these don't seem to be worth dying for. guess i'll check back in next patch.

new patch, once more into the blender. got stuck in an incursion, managed to get unstuck resizing (Bug Report ID: #2543029995). Switched to Lockstep mode for a bit, got stuck in an incursion, only got unstuck when a pack that hadn't been onscreen wandered over and killed me (Bug Report ID: #2354984244)
