AG dies

It was said that the AG could die but you could revive him in the city and return to fight against Maven (this example was used by Gazzy on Twitter/x).
Is it different on maps? Because my AG died and I did this process and he didn't come back when I entered the map again.

I believe this doesn't make sense since he can return to fight on bosses and not on maps.
