Crash to Desktop - NVIDIA
OS: Arch Linux and Windows 10
Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700K Memory: 64GB Graphics: NVIDIA 4090 (Drivers updated on both OS installs) DirectX11, 12, and Vulkan all tested Network: Google Fiber Storage: PoE is installed on 2TB NVME (One for windows, one for linux) The game just locks up and completely exits no matter what I try on both Windows and Linux. Fully updated, tried wayland vs x11 on linux, set VARIOUS combinations of graphical settings on both OS, and the longest I have made it this league is around 10minutes without crashing, typically I crash before finishing a single map. PoE works flawlessly (Until end game juicing) on my steam deck, and the issues persisting and exhibiting the exact behavior between Windows and Linux does point me to blaming NVIDIA. Here is LatestClient.txt ending in a shader crash from the last time I tried to play on June 19th: https://gist.github.com/MatthewABrantley/a05df483238583336e8b7bc0253c1fce Last bumped on Jul 13, 2025, 3:02:17 PM

I upgraded to Windows 11 just to check if it works, and no, I get the exact same crashing behavior on D12, Vulkan, and DX11. I have dialed my video settings up and down and back up again, and tried random combinations (Maybe Dynamic Culling ON with NO Vsync, etc, etc, etc, etc) and nothing does anything. I will contintue to update both OS's and attempt.

I downgraded the windows installation to NVIDIA 572.70 after reading some peoples comments. No change.

I got my hands on a 8 GB AMD Radeon RX 7600 for temporary testing purposes and played on linux for two hours this morning with no crashes.

What stress testing have you performed against the RTX 4090?
Nvidia has ~75% marketshare. I think we'd know if Path of Exile was somehow incompatible with either their hardware or their software stack. Something else is going on here. That you reproduced the issue under both Arch & Win10 - I'd have been more interested in Win11 had it been a fresh install, personally - makes me suspect a hardware-level defect with the original video card. Was the card overclocked (either by you, or the manufacturer) ? I find it difficult to justify optional purchases to support a Tencent-owned development studio that declines to provide customers Technical Support, regardless of how many thousands of euros that customer has spent...

I played all of settlers basically the entire year and Phrecia right until the end with no problem at all. I was logged in doing standard stash sorting right before release, again with no problems. Merc releases, and it's never ending crashes typically within 60 seconds.
I'm not alleging that ALL of NVIDIA doesn't work, that's why I included my system specs, because it's obviously a my computer issue. That's why I even booted windows at all, because I assumed it was self-inflicted linux wounds. I have friends who are playing on NVIDIA, streamers are streaming using NVIDIA setups, etc. 15 minutes of "furmark" stress testing, never done gpu testing before, I think it's fine? https://imgur.com/a/AhYhHYE Exact Model: MSI Suprim GeForce RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6X PCI Express 4.0 Video Card RTX 4090 SUPRIM X 24G Clock Information from nvidia-smi, I'm going to research, I know very little about GPU's and have no idea if MSI messed with it or not, I did not myself at least. " I'll blow windows away and reinstall, I don't care about it at all, good idea. Still experiencing this issue? Have you found out anything more? I think I may be in the same boat as you. I also played all of Settlers, through Phrecia, up to the day before Merc launch with no issues. Then Merc launches and I crash to desktop hourly. I have almost the exact same PC specs as you too.
