CreateSwapChainForHwnd, GetDeviceRemoveReason Error
Every time I launch PoE on my laptop I get this error almost immediately after the window opens - basically a black box with the error in the middle. It seems to be a graphical error where the system is struggling or failing to accurately switch from the integrated graphics (what most background processes are running on?) to the dGPU (a 4060).
Here are my specs: i7-14650HX 32.0 GB DDR4 x64 Windows (might be a contributing issue) RTX 4060 I have gotten it to "work" in 2 situations, 1) fully disabling the iGPU, which then promptly overloads my system, crashes repeatedly, and bluescreens, and 2) launching on a separate monitor (this is not an option ATP). Here are some fixes I have attempted: -Uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times on both Steam and the standalone launcher/website -Completely removing all NVIDIA drivers and reinstalling them up to date -Disabling iGPU -Forcing game to launch using (or 'preferring') the dGPU - this has not actually taken place once, neither when doing so from NVIDIA control panel or inside Windows settings (trying on both x64Steam and x64 game versions) -Using 3rd party software to force game to launch without iGPU (like forcing the hybrid system entirely to turn off and use the dGPU ONLY for PoE) -editing startup resolution in production_config.ini and windowed/borderless in Steam launch properties -switching between Dx11, Dx12, and Vulkan in production_config.ini and Steam launch properties -using --nologo and turning off some audio queues in Steam launch properties From what some have told me, Microsoft might have failsafes in place to prevent games from NOT relying on the iGPU one way or another, so maybe Linux is the answer (for my system)? Is this Win10 or Win11?
You mention Blue Screens - do you have a stop code from one of them? Please post your Client.txt file. It might make sense to save it on a site such as Pastebin and post a link to it, to avoid blowing up the scrollbar here on the forum. In your post you mention using Steam. You should be able to copy & paste this into File Explorer's address bar; %programfiles(x86)%\Steam\steamapps\common\Path of Exile\logs If you don't mind me asking - why do you believe the issue is related to your laptop switching GPU? Is it just from anecdotally being unable to reproduce the issue with the iGPU disabled? I'm working on something for the PoE community! 👀

Windows 11
I do not have any stop codes from the blue screen - the blue screen also only happened once after I disabled my iGPU, which I assume caused my system to overheat from the dGPU or some other sort of overload, not entirely sure - I'm not too learned on this topic. I believe it has to do with the GPU swapping or the hybrid graphics not only because anecdotally but also because some chatter online also suggests that as an issue, ChatGPT diagnoses the same way, and when using software like MSI Afterburner and viewing activity on the cards would also suggest it. I am unable to post the Client.txt file, as it does have some personal data when logging some file locations, and I wouldn't be able to parse through it all (it has ~30,000 lines). Is there something specific you're looking for that I can find? The game version I currently have is the standalone client, not the Steam version. |
