Drowning orbs/on death mechanics
Can you do something about drowning orbs???? I cant see them on the screen - when they touch me i cant escape them, insta death, they are possibly the most frustrating thing and completley sum up PoE at the moment, random mechanics that are not linked to actual monsters, just random on death or just death mechanics.
Can we go back to a game where it is about PvE, no random on death effects?? Last bumped on Jul 21, 2025, 12:28:56 PM

As for me, Drowning orbs are easy, even if they catch you, just use movement skill. In contrast of Volatile cores. I play with minions, and i just can't see them, but when one of them reach you, it's insta death, no movement skill save you. The only solution is become prepared beforehand, when you see rare mob. And run like a madman.

" You need an instant mobility skill to instantly dodge those orbs if they reach you. Also almost all T17s are dark maps which makes it almost impossible to see them (even if we don´t count the 1000 monsters on screen and their effects into it). You realize volatiles are even worst design since "being prepared and run like a madman" is a terrible design choice. A monster dealing the most damage after it dies has no place in ARPGs. Sadly many use them nowadays. I wanna fight an enemy who can kill me while its still alive and not getting 1 shot by its Apparition. Exarch runes in Sanctuary would be another effect which can´t be seen at all there. List goes on and on. Just a terrible solution for poe´s power creep. |

I think the design is ok. Drowning orbs give you time to react. Even if you not see them, once they reach you, screen becomes darker and you have time to react. But maybe because i use instant Frostblink? Maybe with other mobility skills experience will be different?
While Volatile cores doesn't give you time, you fight in crowd of mobs and ... suddenly you are dead. If they explode a little slower or give the player some other indication, that they are here, i think it will be ok. |

" Yes frostblink is instant so is the first cast of flame dash thats why you get out instantly. Drowning Orbs reduce your action speed which is the most important stat in poe actually. You can be immortal but get perma petrified in T17s for example. But my point is in dark map layouts you mostly don´t see the orbs affecting you until its too late (dslilly had a death last season because of that for example). Those are one of the reasons why I built a trickster. Last edited by TayPoE#6379 on Jul 21, 2025, 3:25:23 AM

"Since when? The ones in T17 didnt do that for me - they only put up a debuff icon. Unlike the Eater ones which IIRC did this from the beginning. (Im now rolling over the 'Drowning Balls' mod so I havent encountered them in maps in a long time.) No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

" Since always. But you might have been playing a character which was not affected by the slowing effect. |

"Just walk out, lol? |

"Maybe I wasnt clear: The "screen becomes darker" part did not happen in my case in T17, it only showed a debuff icon. Your link says nothing about that. No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!
