Feeling sad that PoE has peaked for me

At a certain point I was really excited about PoE 2. I was keeping extra cash aside so that I could buy a new PC/laptop when it got fully released. I avoided playing early access because I did not want to ruin it for myself.

However, lately I kinda stopped caring about it. I know PoE 2 is incomplete but after seeing so many videos of content creators talking about how PoE 2 is full of problems that PoE 1 already fixed, I feel discouraged.

I have no doubt that GGG can fix a lot of these problems but the thought of PoE 2 surpassing PoE 1 and making me feel like I did when I first started playing PoE 1 seems like wishful thinking.

If I do end up getting a new PC for when PoE 2 releases I will probably play it for a month or two and then subsequently start longing for those amazing years I had when PoE 1 first came out. It was so unique and unlike any other ARPG I played before.

I have no doubt PoE 2 will be a solid ARPG, I just cant see it being as revolutionary as PoE 1 was.

An analogy would be world of warcraft fans waiting for the next big MMORPG. It never came. No new game ever gave you the same feeling that the original WoW did. That itch was never satisfied.

I feel like the true PoE 2, or the next successor to this genre, will probably not be from GGG or blizzard, but another company daring to do something totally different.

Kind of agree here - I had huge hopes for PoE2 and for someone playing nearly every league for the last 4-5 years I think its telling that even on three tries I never made it out of the campaign in PoE2. Game just doesnt feel good when PoE1 is what I define as the pinnacle game.

Im not as sad though - I just keep playing PoE1.

I am glad you're still able to enjoy PoE 1 at least!

something something the real PoE 2 the friends we made along the way

I totally get you, OP. I wonder if they should have called it something else; labelling it a sequel just puts a weird pressure on the game to be PoE 1 but with most / all aspects improved - and given how so many improvements would be subjective, that sets it up for failure right off the bat.

It reminds me of Guild Wars 2. The original series of games were some of my favourites of time, and then Guild Wars 2 was… just a different game that happened to use the same IP.

Obviously they wanted to capitalise on the name recognition of PoE 1 - but they could’ve stuck with the world of Wraeclast while naming it something other than PoE 2. Realistically, GGG releasing another ARPG with the same IP would’ve gotten people’s attention regardless of the name.

Come to think of it - they could’ve literally called it “World of Wraeclast” just for the memes…

I feel ya.

When I got into POE1 for the first time, it stuck straight away. The complexity, the challenge, the endless pretty shiny moments where I'd be halfway through my passive tree build and think "WTF was I doing again?" Then starting over. I'm still into it.

POE2 on the other hand, took me three days of playing to delete it, and I've not had a single itch to load it back up. Simply not for me.
I poop, therefore I am.
I'd argue it's because PoE used to be about finding obtuse interactions that felt like BigBrain moments. It seems to have become harder in my opinion, though maybe because it's more challenging to design things for it, or maybe because we players have largely "solved" the game as a collective, so new exciting things are hard to find. Maybe it's all of the above and then some.

The game's pretty big now. PoE Deuce doesn't push the same buttons for me. The graphics look nice, but I don't want to feel like I'm playing a tech demo.

If you need a recommendation, though for a completely different genre and type of game, give "Abiotic Factor" (it's on Steam) a shot. If you are into hunting for obtuse things and enjoy crafting freedom, it could be a game for you.

I find PoE2 as fun as a punch to the face. That said, I still think it can turn into a great game. It all depends on how stubborn Mark and Jonathan are when it comes to feedback.

But I'm a creature of habit and usually stay away from things I find annoying. Hell, I don't even touch the Eagon memories in PoE1 because they force me away from nice map layouts, so what do you think I feel when I'm playing the PoE2 zone/map layouts? Not to mention the endgame where you have no control over what to run!?

Nah, PoE2 has a LONG way to go before it can turn into a game where sinking hundreds of hours into it doesn't feel like a chore.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

if you don't play meta and stay out of breach/deli/ritual and don't account for the pure rng of some maps this is very much a current poe2. run a logbook, or citadels. they don't seem to suffer from the pack density and rng mobs issues other maps do, well unless you juice the fuck out of your logbooks lol. i play rake and my game play is extremely close to what the first 5min of this vid is. and yes i'm talking about endgame, not campaign.
