Dismissed Merc items lost?

I accidentally dismissed the wrong merc with full gear worth about 30 div. Are my items lost for good?=(

Yes.

FYI, there was a warning popup telling you that the gear would be lost. It has different text than the default warning popup (which tells you the merc itself will be lost).

Maybe they should make this popup more obviously important, give it some red text or something.

Dang, problem was it confused me cause it asked if I wanted to replace my current Merc and I said no, but then it gave me a list of the r remaining mercenaries - including my current Merc, and because I was in a map I couldn’t tell which Merc was which, and I picked the wrong one. Man that’s a weeks worth of farming - lame. They should definitely make it so you can see the gear of what ever Merc your going to dismiss - not just their name and level.

Hopefully someone from GGG sees this and can make some improvements to the UI. I see this seems to be a pretty common issue.
I also saw some people suggesting that they put the gear in a remove only stash tab when this mistake is made.

Given that stash tabs are one of the main revenue streams, this seems unlikely.

As it would allow people to store a full set of gear for every map they enter without ever buying any tabs.

Yes, it's clunky, and kind of stupid, and they're remove-only, but people use Mule characters in Diablo 2 all the time, and other similar games, which is at least as clunky.

I think the problem is the combination of the extremely low merc limit and the UI.

Because of the way hiring mercs works, I just always leave 1 slot open. It guarantees I never have to deal with the situation mid-map of finding a merc I want and then needing to free up space.

However, with the merc limit of 3 (which seems crazy low), leaving one slot opens means I really only have access to 2 mercs.

If I were tasked with a quick & dirty solution, I would add a special "just hired" slot separate from the others. "Just hired" mercs would be non-interactable until you move them into one of the 3 main slots.

I would also remove the ability to take a merc with you right away unless you currently don't have one with you.

After all, it's almost never the case that you want to take a new merc with you right away without changing any gear, except for very early in the league.

So then new mercs would always go into the "just hired" slot back in town/hideout, and would simply get overwritten if you hire a new one without dealing the "just hired" one first. This would never delete gear, because the "just hired" merc was non-interactable. You couldn't have changed its gear without moving into a "normal" slot first.

Not that I actually expect GGG to make any further changes to mercs during this league. And therefore never, unless they go core.
Oh well, thanks for the reply!
