Fps drops in PoE2
Hey there,
I have issues with my game's performance for a long time now. If there are too many particle effects the game lags heavily, going down to 20 FPS. If I am in my hideout or there are a few monsters on screen, it can go up to 90 FPS. Tried to update every single driver I had. Tweaked with the settings to lower the quality. So far nothing seems to work. I have this config: Ryzen 7 5700X 16 GB DDR4 RAM GeForce RTX 4070TI Super I also tried to check with MSI Afterburner to monitor the CPU utilization and I have noticed some of the cores are underutilized while others at 100%. Any tips how to fix this? I think with my set up, a stable 60 FPS would be normal. (I did not saw any performance related stuff in the upcoming patch) Last bumped on Aug 24, 2025, 12:34:06 PM

You can pay for geforce now / boosteroid (I have a bad laptop and pay $10 a month and I dont lag with boosteroid)
The game's particle effects (fire, ice, smoke, explosions) are currently not fully optimized, causing huge FPS drops especially in late/endgame areas with heavy visual effects. You mentioned some CPU cores are maxed while others are underutilized — PoE2's engine currently has limited multithreading optimization which can bottleneck performance on fewer cores. Continue lowering graphics settings like shadows, post-processing, and disabling some visual effects like bloom and depth of field to reduce GPU load. Turn on Dynamic Culling if it's an option, which helps by not rendering unnecessary objects. Make sure Game Mode is enabled in Windows settings and close any unnecessary background apps. Consider setting Windows power plan to High Performance. Keep your GPU drivers up to date through NVIDIA GeForce Experience. There are some community discussions asking for better particle effect options or a slider to control how intense particle effects are so this should improve in future patches. For now, you might try using a third-party FPS/graphics optimizer tool cautiously (some players see benefits but this is unofficial). |
