NVIDIA's Smooth Motion breaks Steam Overlay for PoE2

When I enable Smooth Motion in the Nvidia app for PoE2 it breaks the steam overlay.

I can see the cursor change to the windows one when I try to open the overlay but can't see the actual overlay, preventing me from buying coins for example.
Also can't see the Steam FPS overlay.

As soon as I disable Smooth Motion again the overlay is working fine again.
