POE2 Tooltip Popups No Longer Chain Beyond Second Layer – Recursive Help Broken (Third Edict Patch)

I have not played since the initial release of POE2 this is the first main league/patch I have played since then and this may have broken or been changed sometime ago

Category: UI/UX Bug

Description:

In earlier builds of Path of Exile 2, holding Alt while hovering over key terms triggered contextual tooltips. These could be pinned, and you could then hover over terms inside the pinned window to spawn additional nested tooltips—allowing recursive exploration of mechanics across items, skills, passives, and more.

As of the Third Edict patch, this behavior appears to be broken. Tooltip chaining now stops prematurely, making it harder to explore layered terminology in-game.

Steps to Reproduce:

Launch POE2 (Steam version) and open a tooltip-rich UI screen (e.g., inventory, passive tree, skill gem panel).

Hover over a skill gem like Arc—this triggers the first-level tooltip window.

While holding Alt, hover over a keyword inside that window such as “Lightning Damage”—this triggers a second-level tooltip explaining Lightning Damage.

While still holding Alt, pin the second-level tooltip window.

Now hover over a keyword inside the pinned second-level window, such as “Shock”.

At this point, no third-level tooltip appears—hovering over “Shock” does nothing, even with Alt held.

Expected Behavior:

Nested tooltips should continue to appear when hovering over terms inside any pinned window, allowing recursive exploration of game mechanics.

Actual Behavior:

Tooltip chaining breaks at the second level. Once the second-level window is pinned, hovering over its terms no longer triggers additional popups.

System Info:

OS: Windows 11 home (fully updated)

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti 16GB

Game Version: Third Edict Patch (Steam)

Rendering API: Vulkan and DirectX 12 (issue persists across both)

Display Mode: Borderless Window

locked at 60 fps DLSS balanced/quality and adaptive vsync

Additional Notes:

This recursive tooltip feature was incredibly useful for onboarding, theorycrafting, and parsing layered terminology without relying on external sources. Losing it makes it harder to understand mechanics in context—especially for newer players or those exploring advanced builds.

If this was removed intentionally, please consider re-enabling it or adding a toggle in the UI settings. If it’s a regression, I hope it can be restored soon—it’s one of those invisible QoL features that makes POE2 feel intuitive and deep.
