[PoE2] Game client not connecting to Steam

I tried logging in today but I keep getting an error. This is the error:
Steam: not connected to Steam. I have only played PoE 2 via Steam and am able to log in to the PoE 2 website using my Steam credentials, and can see my character that I last played about a week ago.
