Let's talk about shrines.

Shrines are good, shrines are great, but shrines are bad when they kill you or when it is hard to click them

I don’t know about you guys, but I have mixed feelings about shrines. Sure, I’ll admit Diablo 2 had some implications when you clicked on a shrine in Act 5, and we all understand GGG’s philosophy in PoE 2’s design—provide a positive effect along with a negative drawback.

In my personal opinion, after playing PoE 2 for 500 hours, I’d say shrines are more often punishing with instant deaths rather than beneficial. The scaling feels off once you hit monster levels 79–81.

My stats: 76% Fire, Cold, and Lightning resistance, 75% Chaos resistance, 80% Physical reduction (with 25% of physical taken as fire), 40% damage taken from mana first, Ignite immunity, and 75% elemental damage reduction (new stat). Even with all that, I still get one-shot by fire meteors. The graphical indication where will the land is hard to see in a high end map.

My second problem is that shrines are very hard to click. Most of the time mobs surround them, and while I don’t mind killing the mobs first, you really need to be right on top of the shrine to click it.

My last minor issue is that shrines don’t show you what type you picked up. You have to hover over the buff icon at the top left of the screen. It would be much better if we got some floating text like “More experience gain,” “Frost AOE,” etc.

It's honestly not too bad but I agree scaling should be adjusted so that your fire resist matter if you're hit.

The only problem i see in shrines right now is that they reduce visual clarity in this game where it already almost doesnt exist. If i run deliroum map i cancel meteor and lightning shrines as soon as i pick them up. Frost and chaos shrines are good tho
They seem kind of barebones imo. Like a mechanic in the game just for the sake of having a mechanic and adding player power, and monsters, because it's not really the most interesting thing to have.

It would be more interesting if there were more variations on shrine buffs, and maybe even different "flavours" of buffs, eg. make these buffs give you the added damage + the corresponding herald - and if you have the herald already, THEN it gives you the "auxillary" buff (ice shard nova, meteors, lightning storm).

A defensive shrine, one that gives ailment proliferation, one that infuses your attacks with physical damage + poison chance, one that gives you 100% increased AoE, one that lets all your hits break-armour and comes bundled with armour explosion, one that gave you elemental thorns and quill burst on your attacks/spells (this would be hilarious to watch people with no defenses rip to, as the mobs around the shrine have the buff lol).

Maybe none of those - the point is I think they could do a lot more with them than they currently are because they're kind of uninteresting.

Same. Meteor is an instant click off. Lightning is somewhat less annoying, but it also doesn't do enough damage to be actually useful.
