Respeccing a single talent tree point resets your total gold to 50k

I encountered a strange issue while respeccing a single point in my talent tree.

At character level 67, I respecced one point from a Dexterity node to an Intelligence node. I'm used to respecs costing around 2.000 gold per node, so I clicked quickly without double-checking. To my surprise, it deducted nearly 300.000 gold, leaving me with exactly 50.000 gold remaining.

I'm not sure what caused this. I did nothing unusual besides standing in Act 1 town when I respecced.

Maybe there some kind of gold cap bug when respeccing in early acts?

Either way, this was a huge loss and really discouraging after spending so much time farming what for me is a lot of gold.
