What am I doing wrong with my build?

...yet this is like the sixth or seventh time I died at the rust king.

What am I doing wrong? I spawn the lightning totems and then use the lightning arrow skill to take the stupid boss down (and try to dodge roll most of his attacks), yet I still die like halfway through.

Is PoE2 genuinely meant to be this hard and frustrating in the early game or am I missing something with the build?

That means you’re not dodging Rust King’s attacks well enough. He has three attacks that can one-shot you. One of them is the swords that appear underneath him. This one is very easy to dodge since you can clearly see the direction they’ll go, and you have about 3–4 seconds to react.

If you’re too slow, the other two can be a problem. The rain of swords from above can catch you off guard, especially if you play at range and don’t notice it in time. But honestly, neither of them is that hard to avoid. If you stay close to the Rust King, you can dodge these attacks faster. The key is to dodge as soon as he starts using the ability, not when the hit is about to land. These are quick skills.

Also, if you reach level 6 before facing the Rust King, you’ll get a bit more HP and your damage will scale up through the passive tree.

My advice: watch some hardcore players for reference.
