Top tier builds vs The average player

I try to the best of my ability, use guides as just guidelines. I am not rich in game, but putting a build together that actually performs takes some time. I always hit a point in the game where my character reach 80-89 where I just get stuck. Don't have the currency to purchase top tier items to boost me OR wasting what I have to attempt a craft. Yes, the crafting maybe more deterministic, however it's still difficult without expending/wasting currency. Which brings me to the center of the post...

Are abyssal rare bosses supposed to be so damn spammy, no matter how I'm geared defensively, they always kill me with something (I don't ever really know, because the ground is so clogged with stuff. Is this game tuned to top tier builds or the average player? Maybe I'm just a trash player. Every time I hit this point in my character progression, I just want to give up because I can't get past these stupid abyssal rares spamming beams and stuff all over the place.
