Is the Hungry Fangs affliction bugged?

Trial of the Sekhemas has an affliction called Hungry Fangs. The tooltip reads, "Monsters remove 5% of your Life, Mana and Energy Shield on Hit." However, the 5% per hit also applies to hits from traps. So...

Are traps in the trial considered "monsters", or is Hungry Fangs bugged?

As far as I know, it always applied to all hits including traps, but it is an affliction that should NEVER be taken regardless, because there are also monsters (urnwalkers!) that hit very fast and can kill any character with Hungry Fangs in a second.
