Thought I'd play HC this league and then RIP to softcore eventually... horrible mistake

So I've been playing HC for the last few years, so the new changes where you RIP in HC and can continue playing in SC sounded fantastic to me.

Imagine being me last night and dying to a pack of invuln divine shrine monsters and thinking "oh hey, that's fine, I can still play this character in SC" only to find out that all of my progress is gone, no breach trees enabled, no atlas completion, can't even use one of my two grafts because of incorrect quest state, etc.

So I think, okay, I'll just create a new HC char and click Migrate All to move my progression over to softcore.

There is no Migrate All button for HC Keepers -> SC Keepers. So, if you RIP in HC, you've got to complete the atlas a second time, do all the in-map quests, the league mechanic quests, unlock the tree, level the tree, unlock your 2nd graft slot, the list goes on.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but should you really be punished this much for choosing to play HC at league launch? This actually feels WORSE than ripping to Standard.

So yeah, learn from me. And yeah, I know I can just go again in HC, but I simply don't want to re-level a character right now. Arc Raiders it is until my internal cooldown pops. Great league btw.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Didn't think about that. I kamikaze'd my HC char into SC so I can start working on the atlas tree. Sure enough no progres in SC. The Graft I had was able to be unlocked after doing one Breach even in a map. Made sure to move over maps to advance as much of the atlas on SC. Made it to 88 which is not too shabby :D
Been asking them to do this for years and they finally did it but im sad to hear they didn't get porting your progression over, surely they'll fix this in a future patch since the progression is the same but harder in hc so there should be no issues porting it to the standard challenge league.
Innocence forgives you
This feels like an oversight or bug. Doesnt sound intended, it was also not communicated as being a progress reset. You should be able to continue playing from your progress.

GGG Post about this would be nice though.

For me it was the most obvious thing with that new "feature" and that is the reason why i didnt bothered trying HC.
the way i see it, its a technical issue.

bringing a character over from league HC to league Std is just merely copying the inventory/passives over.

bringing in stash is a different story. how does ggg resolve 2 different stashes in existence. for example league hc currency stash to league std. the hc currency stash may have 4000 chaos, while the std one has 3000. they cant simply be mashed together.

the next best thing is converting the HC stashes to remove only stashes.

on surface level this sounds easy.

but consider league end migration. GGG has never needed to migrate remove only tabs to standard. this will require extensive testing and coding.

you do NOT want a half assed implementation and thorough testing has to be done as players like myself will find it simply unacceptable to have their stuff POOFED due to a bad implementation.

i think it is a fair compromise. iirc isnt league conversion works? you only ever move the character and their immediate inventory.

i dont really see this as an issue. you do get to rip to softcore but you do need to farm things back again. its working as intended but yeah. if youre practically "naked" since you have no currency to buy maps and have zero maps you might need to beg for a free map to get started again.

Edit: the stuff i mention is specifically in regards to stashes.

OP was talking about other progression stuff that are related specifically to the character. i believe that is a huge oversight and ggg needs to fix it.

Haven't played PoE in a while but don't these get mashed together and you have an overflow, like 7000 chaos. Can't put anymore chaos in there but you can still remove them?

as far as i know the current implementation doesnt allow hc stash tabs to merge with sc.

similar to how ssf stash tabs do not merge with std.

when you convert an ssf character to non ssf, the game essentially just moves the character to the relevant league ignoring the stashes.

i imagine this is the same when it comes to "migrating" HC characters to SC.

this is illustrated with end of league migrations.

stash tabs are never merged. they are simply copied over but marked as remove only.
