poe korea (daum/kakao) dont do it.

if you are starting out or thinking about playing PoE in korea via kakao, dont.

i started playing poe a long long time ago, and converted my acc to korea
because i hoped the better ping would make things easier.
worst decision ever.
i took a break for a couple of years and have been excited to get back into it with the new league after watching videos for several days about new mechanics/leagues etc. turns out daum/kakao simply deleted my account due to inactivity and it cannot be recovered. all my mtx/ stashes are gone. such a scam. if you play from korea or are thinking about converting your account to kakao for some other reason, dont do it. I've been playing online games since ~1998 and never have i had a problem like this. some games I have come back to old accounts on after more than a decade without a problem and those weren't even accounts that I bought something for that is now gone forever until i drop another 50 bucks into it. sad but i guess i wont be playing PoE again after all and definitely not a kakao game ever again.

i really hope this doesnt happen to my poe account

i know for a fact GGG did do this where they did close inactive accounts as some of my friends were inactive for a year or two.

the difference is ggg helped retrieve the account and items etc.

perhaps you can try asking kakao CS for help.

GGG disables inactive accounts so its not just kakao doing it

The player should be expected to have some kind of responsibility for keeping their account active, however the company should be making sure the player knows before it happens.

i agree IF the play has never spent a cent on the game. but once you spend a dime, i think that gives the player at least some sort of entitlement.

ideally players shouldnt need to worry about their accounts being wiped. period.

and in my friends case, i believe ggg backed up all the data to some external drive before removing the account.

poe was developed with the idea its to be played forever after all

Agree!
against my own nature I keep complaining to the kakao CS. My memory is super vague but as far as I can tell, when I first started playing on their servers they were Daum/Kakao and they then completed their merger sometime around 2024. I must have gotten an email in 2023 to manually merge my accounts, because i can see on their webpage that I did so in March 2023.

I also found a log file called Client.txt that had the line that shows I log into an instance server and then "You have entered Highgate"

i am not 100% sure but does that not mean I had a non-new account with a char higher than level1 at this point (and therefore that my account still was intact at this point)?

one email from kakao stated an account can be deleted after 4 years of being dormant but if my math is right it has not been 4 years since 2023 but they insist that the account is gone and I cannot be helped. this is terrible

p.s. i also just realized the Client.txt is now gone and has been replaced but a bunch of other files and i only have my screenshot left of it. but i guess even if I had the file they wouldnt help me anyways. for now my recommendation is still to avoid kakao at all costs. will update if it changes but not holding my breath
