Frequent disconnects with South Africa gateway

Multiple times throughout the day, everything will just freeze in place. Ping graph climbs endlessly. It's 50/50 whether I get kicked to the login screen or everything catches up. Otherwise, the ping graph is usually smooth at ~11ms.

Friends experience this too, but not simultaneously.

I know it's not my connection because:
-There is no disruption on Discord voice.
-I can go on to a European gateway and will not get disconnected like this.
-I can tab out and browse to any other website without delay.
-Not experiencing disconnects or lag spikes in other online games, both local and international.
