Well after searching for other games to play, after quite some time of mindlessly consuming this game. I finally understand how harmful this game has been for me. Don't get me wrong this game has a lot of content but there are way to many issues to count. And well instead of trying to address some of these issues, they would rather stamp out any form of dissent and criticism they receive. However the community in this game is possibly the worst part as most are just mindless consumers, with not much care to give about other people or opinions (just look at the guys screaming about their drops). Just mindless riders for people that do not give a damn about you.
But hey at the end of the day i don't have anything against anyone here since most are just trying to enjoy the only one thing they do.
After almost 10y that i was here.

I get that people want to do a farewell message for a game that they've played a long time, so I can't begrudge that. But why do these messages need to consistently include tearing down players who stay or continue to play? I enjoy POE1 (specifically 1) and somehow I get to be tagged as a mindless consumer according to OP.

Games are like pizza toppings. We all have our favorite combinations and also toppings we absolutely detest. I don't like BBQ sauce on pizza and don't understand it, but some people do. They're not mindless consumers. They just like what they like.

Speaking of end of life plan i think eventually one way or another with some sort of governmental change maybe i don't know game companies need to force about this issue. For example why there is no offline mod for poe? Why there is no game preservation? Do we wanna get more dead games in future when it can easily stopped? Seems like games are not so reliable to defend their hobby though. Even stop killing games movement get so much problem and not sure where it can go but so little people care when you consider how much gamer are out there.

i hear you for sure.

a lot of the code for how things work is server side. its not a game designed to just run on your pc, its designed that you have something on your pc and you connect to a server where a whole load of other things are stored. the data bases for all the items that exist, the stuff that spawns the items etc, none of that is on your pc afaik and i dont think they want you to have the code for all that on your computer. they want it on their servers where its relatively safe.


theyve said it costs very little to keep a server going, i presume the less people there are the less server capacity they need and ultimately it can be scaled back and back. as long as poe2 is still generating money i dont think they will switch poe1 off. might stop making new leagues but why switch off standard if theres people playing?





that said, i know what u mean and i sort of agree. tbh when they fucked with divines and exalts it destroyed a lot of long term wealth many of us had and i mentally just detached at that point. its sort of whatever, my mrs plays warhammer with her friends and it just reminded me that no matter what happens she always has her warhammer models, her rule books, 30 years from now she can put them on a table and play a version of the game she has books for that was released in 2018, or 2008, or 1998. i feel like its more worth while to put time into those sort of hobbies than computer games honestly.

computer games are kind of shit. people used to tell me they were against steam, i didnt like steam when it very first launched, what do you mean i dont own a disk? i want to own a disk, i want to physically own the game you are selling me. ive seen people say that to me many times since over the years. at one point i thought u know what? i want to play doom 3 its been a while, dug out my discs... it doesnt support 1920x1080... i tried my old CoD1 discs, they wouldnt install on a modern pc at the time. thats when i realised it doesnt even matter if you own the disc, cause you wont own a pc that is fully compatible with that disc over time. its almost better its on steam cause if its there it has to be playable and patched.

computer games are throw away. as much as i loved my time playing poe1 i dont rly give a shit about poe any more, i dont plan on giving much of a shit about poe2. id rather just do hobbies that i can hold in my hands. probably why chris is off collecting magic cards. i dont trust that anything we do here is somehow safe over decades.

Even games from my youth like Guild Wars 1 are still fully operational. I don't think we'll have to worry about end of life for PoE1 in at least the next decade.
