Soul Eater on mobs has to be worked on somehow

Soul Eater is in my opinion borderline gamebreaking. If you play a minion build or anything that "feeds" the monster souls, you quickly get enemies that are so insanely fast that they turn into uber bosses, and are insanely tanky too. I dont know what to do but its ridiculous how one single monster mob can have such a gigantic impact, and you cant work around it too.

I think different playstyles each having their own respective pros and cons is much more a feature than a bug. In many ways, minion-centred builds can potentially lend themselves towards... shall we say... 'efficiencies' where you can get away with skimping on survivability-focused affixes because, well - you have an army of meat shields; who needs to survive a hit that doesn't hit them ?

Builds which feature "spamming" minions (e.g. Summon Raging Spirits) are arguably worse again - as they don't even expect you to sink investment into minion survivability.

It can't all be upside - occasionally there has to be a negative; that's how balance works.

Yea, but the downside isnt just a bit of a penalty, its 90% less damage taken and infinite attack speed which is not comparable to other mods at all
as a non-minion player, this is an actual question, not a criticism.

Can' you build around it, if that is a real concern (like you are nemesis farming).

Surely there is a way for minion builds to spec into single target/ability to quicky nuke down a monster. Or recall your minions to they dont feed the soul eater. No?

Soul eater in its current form isn't just a problem for minion builds.

The problem with soul eater mobs rights now is the damage reduction they get (on top of the normal DR rares get) which scales with the number of souls they've consumed, so they're not only so fast you can't get away from them while they hit you dozens of times per second, they effectively can't be killed until the stacks start to fall off (unless you're doing broken amounts of damage). It's also often impossible to avoid continuing to feed them souls for absurdly long periods of time because they can spawn anywhere, including in mechanics which continuously spawn trash mobs that die far more easily (e.g. delve azurite nodes).

The current soul eater modifier is only outclassed for horrible design by the lightning totem modifier that suddenly off-screen spams a dozen lightning totems right on top of you, each usually hitting for most of your HP before you've even had a chance to comprehend what just happened.

The trick is to identify a souleater mob, kill everything around it, and disengage it until the stacks have been depleted fully. Kill monsters a screen away or something to kill time, then go back and kill it.

I also dislike Souleater with a passion and this is what I do when I'm on a build that can't just burst it immediately
