Can't log in through steam // POE 2 client works fine

Hi,
a friend bought the game for me through a key selling website - I know, let the judgement flow. I already connected steam to the POE account and did download through steam. But I can't log in... I can click on create a steam poe account or link accounts. I want to link the accounts, but they already are, so I'm getting a error message once I click on the confirmation link in the received mail. Any ideas what I could try?
