Not dealing any damage while using wolf skills

Sometimes i am not doing any damage at all to the monsters when using my wolf skills: Lunar assault, pounce, cross slash.

I am next to the monster, they dont have any specific modifier making them immune or anything, but i'm not dealing any damage at all for a long time.

I have the impression that it is the wolves near me being somehow in the way. When they die or when i move backward until the wolves respawn next to me and go back to the monster i can than damage it.
