PoE 2 Without PvP Feels Like a Missed Opportunity

Path of Exile has always thrived on deep systems, long-term goals, and player mastery. With PoE 2 expanding the core experience even further, this feels like the perfect time to seriously consider PvP as a supported feature.

PvP doesnt need to replace pve or become the main focus but as an optional, well-structured mode, it can significantly increase the games longevity. Competitive environments naturally create reasons for players to keep optimizing builds, experimenting with mechanics, and staying active between leagues.

More importantly, PvP creates ongoing interaction between players, not just with content. Rivalries, tournaments, ladders, and community-driven events all emerge organically when competition exists. These elements keep games alive long after initial progression goals are completed.

*Even a limited or seasonal PvP implementation could:

*Encourage build diversity in new ways

*Create a parallel endgame for experienced players

*Strengthen community engagement and content creation

PoE already has one of the deepest combat and build systems in ARPGs. Allowing players to test that mastery against each other would add an entirely new layer of excitement without taking anything away from pve-focused players.

I genuinely believe PvP could become a powerful long-term pillar for PoE 2 if approached thoughtfully.

The idea sounds like fun till you realise that PvP in this game will boil down to basically broken overpowered expensive builds stomping anybody that either cant grind as much, isnt playing the meta or simply cant afford to invest the currency in a parallel mode for whatever reason.

It is virtually impossible to balance PvP in any way to get anything close to a fair playground people can compete in. Worst case it will draw people in not knowing better and getting utterly destroyed and in the end driven away from this game after investing into a PvP build that wont net them anything.

There is a reason why none of this games in this genre have a proper working PvP mode if they even have one at all.

There isn't a single PvP game that doesn't suffer from balancing problems, cheaters and piss contests...

I personally don't care they implement PvP as long as it's a stand alone thing like for a special leaderboard without rewards.

The only ones benefitting from PVP would be RMT traders, and a bad experience on PvP might actually make people turn away from the game, for example if it tied to progression or rewards.

I would rather have GGG working on fixing motion vectors, FSR, Jonathan's new scheduler, Vulkan implementation and other things that ACTUALLY MATTER, instead of gambling on a new unwanted (for the most) feature.

You had a great opportunity for PvP with Concord 😈
PVP would just result in even more nerfing and homogenization of character builds/abilities. Genuinely a terrible idea considering they have such an issue balancing the PVE as is.

Sounds like a conversation to have after full release.
Evasion-only melee character that can kill Ubers with cheap gear (SSF Rise of the Abyssal), no armor, no energy shield, 62k eHP:
