How to make vaal temple equipment modification meaningful

Rooms with devices that effectively replace common cheap currencies are obviously useless. Why do we even have such devices when we can simply use appropriate currencies? I suggest to improve usage of such devices to make em better than such currencies which they replace with one simple mechanic. On example of exalted device.

Device now "locks" item inside after you click "upgrade" button. After upgrading it shows result and allows two choices - "reroll" and "take" item. If you choose to take item it drops on the ground, if you choose to reroll current result of exalting is lost and exalt applied again and you cannot roll back to previous exalt version. Now after second try item drops automatically since you have no more rerolls.
On tier 2 of the room with the device you now have 2 rerolls. On tier three all possible results of crafting are shown instead and you can choose one to be applied to your item (just like in abyss crafting).
Additionally tier 3 devices now have special slot in which you can place better variant of used currency (greater/perfect exalted orb) to change crafting results accordingly.

Specific devices like the one that replaces common Artificier's orb should be also upgraded. On example of adding Augment sockets device now have a chance that added socket might be of unique quality that adds, let's say, 20% to stats of the rune used in such socket. And with higher device tier chance to obtain such socket is higher.

Now every device's "core" can be extracted for use outside of the temple or to be sold. Special Vaal device is added to the game player may use in hideout and in later acts hub locations. This device has three slots: for Core that will set its mode, for Item that will be modified, and for Currency that might be also used as mentioned above.

These mechanics will simply add alternative crafting methods and make running temple much more useful.
