Still can't change display mode

I can hit Alt-Enter while playing and change from fullscreen to windowed mode nearly instantly with no hiccups.
If I try and use the in-game option to change from fullscreen, everything freezes and I can never click "Keep changes". A large portion of the time the game disconnects.

Steps to repeat:
Be in Fullscreen mode.
Try to change to fullscreen windowed mode.
Realize PoE 1 is being worked on by AI now, and Chris left GGG for valid reasons.

You should be able to just edit the configuration file to change the option.

Is this easier than opening a menu and clicking an option with a UI that's supposed to perform the action? No *Yes while it's not working*
Is it easier than hitting Alt-Enter? No

There are workarounds, yes. They are both faster and slower than the in-game UI.
This doesn't change that the in game UI and code are failing in a repeatable fashion.

If you would like us to troubleshoot why this is occurring for you, we can do so. But it would be both quicker and more reliable to just edit the file. It's up to you which you would prefer.
