Essence mob rare dropped nothing at all

Killed a monster with 6 essences on it in a T15 swamp map and it didn't drop a single thing. Maybe it was to close to a wall or something and somehow died inside of the wall? I dropped a shield wall, freed the mob, exploded the shield wall (and then another to finish it off) and filter shows nothing and holding 'Z' shows nothing.
