Companion will not summon with weapon equipped

I'm playing a Ranger and have used the Tame Beast skill to get a companion. The companion will not summon when I have a weapon equipped. I have to unequip my weapon in order for the companion to summon. Whenever I change any support gem on the Companion skill gem the companion will go away and I'll have to unequip my weapon in order for it to come back out.

This is also happening to me to with the companion. I also need to switch rings out back and forth in order for my spectre to come out because it thinks I either don't have enough spirt or enough int. I have to unequip weapon and switch rings every time I load a new area if I want to keep using them.
