Bug: DX12 ignores iGPU UMA frame buffer size (VRAM capped around 3 GB)
|
Can we please get a GGG acknowledgment that there’s an ongoing DirectX 12 VRAM allocation issue on some AMD iGPU/APU systems?
In Path of Exile 2, DX12 appears to only use about ~3 GB of VRAM on my system, even though I have allocated 16 GB to the iGPU (UMA frame buffer) in BIOS. When it’s limited like this, I get very low texture quality (muddy textures) and, more importantly, item labels/tooltips do not appear for items on the ground and items can appear invisible or fail to render correctly. This makes the game difficult to play. System - CPU/iGPU: AMD Ryzen AI Max Pro 390 with integrated Radeon 8050S - iGPU memory (UMA frame buffer): 16 GB (set in BIOS) Renderer behavior: - DX12: VRAM usage stuck around ~3 GB - Vulkan: uses the full available VRAM but loading times are extremely long or endless - DX11: uses available VRAM but performance is very poor Why I think this is a PoE2 DX12-specific issue Other DX12 games on the same system correctly use the allocated iGPU memory. Workarounds tested - Vulkan uses full VRAM but causes extremely long loading times, sometimes effectively endless, so it’s not playable for me. - DX11 performs very poorly, so DX12 is the only viable renderer in terms of performance, but the VRAM limitation breaks visuals/UI. Troubleshooting already tried - Cleared shader cache - Reinstalled GPU drivers - Reinstalled the game - Tested different graphics settings (textures, resolution, upscalers, etc.) No change. If this is known, could you confirm it’s being tracked? If not, I can provide whatever you need (client log, DxDiag, a screenshot of the graphics settings page, and VRAM usage figures for each renderer). I'm not connected to GGG in any way, but experienced same issue with AMDs 8060S. I run the game from time to time to see if anything changed, and today, heureka! Game can see full 16GB and runs great. I thought I'd share to bring it to your attention.
Keep up the Good work GGG! Last edited by janisimo#0108 on Jan 12, 2026, 2:02:38 AM
