Does the map show the amount of tries I have? Or revives?

This is really confusing its like they change it every season

When im hovering over my portal, and I see 4 revives does that mean I have 4 total tries?

Or is the amount you have remaining as its really throwing me off guard

I'll use a map with 3 revives, I'll see 4 revives when I hover over portal

In previous seasons it showed you how many revives you had left, So when you were on final try it would show 0 revives remaining and you knew that was your last

Now I'll see 1 revive remaining, think I'm good and then boom rip map

So is it the amount of total tries you have? 1 being final?
That is really confusing
